Bar Robo Downtown Launch Party
Thrust is a one of a kind power trio and unlike anything you will find in Ottawa or the surrounding area. Always looking to stand out, the boys in Thrust are working to bring back the 70's influenced funk and soul sound fused with the more modern electronica, hip-hop movement of today's times with a heavy dose of improvisation given the strong jazz background shared between each of its 3 members. With such unique instrumentation, there are no limits to where the music can and will take you but it will be sure to leave you wanting more. Don't let the size of the band fool you, this trio packs a huge punch and has an enormous sound and should not be missed. Jamie Holmes (drums) Ed Lister (synth/trumpet) Clayton Connell (keys/synth).
Starting as an idea between some DJs to expand one city's musical horizons in 2005, TIMEKODE has become a soul/sole movement in the capital, and Ottawa's largest, longest monthly tradition of music and dancing. From humble beginnings at Café Nostalgica, to the warehouse blowouts at Maker Space North, over its long run TIMEKODE has emerged as a beacon for progressive plurality on the dancefloor in Canada.
MIDI timecode is the data that keeps sample loops, filtered basslines and drum hits moving in unison. It's the glue that holds together a culture based on pulling together bits of the past to create the sounds of the future. TIMEKODE residents Memetic and Zattar have spent the last 10+ years using this philosophy to explore the freshest sounds of yesterday, today and tomorrow across genres, on two turntables.
After over a decade of presenting and playing alongside Canadian and international icons (DJ Magnificent, Trevor Walker, Footprints crew, Alister Johnson, Scott C, Lexis, Waajeed, DJ Day, Dam Funk, Quantic and others) TIMEKODE has put the movement on wax with the release of the vinyl TIMEKODE X trilogy. The self-produced series focuses on remixing and presenting artists from the region to the world. Volume 1 focused on the Ottawa scene with remixes of The Souljazz Orchestra and Bonjay. TIMEKODE X Vol. 2 shifted the focus towards Montreal and the issue of police violence, remixing Freak Motif and dArk mAAt'r. TK looks forward to continuing the monthly event series, developing some video projects, and to the release of the third and final edition of TIMEKODE X highlighting two Toronto artists.
